Tamarind

  • Tamarind is a native plant of African regions. Its name derives from the Arabic word Tamar, meaning 'dry date. Its fruit is a long pod containing a brown pulp bittersweet. It has been used in many villages to prepare sauces, desserts and even beverages. In addition to its culinary uses, it is used to treat various diseases. Tamarind pulp is rich in thiamine, crucial for the proper functioning of nerves vitamin, muscles and digestive system. Also it contains vitamin C, which is very effective to prevent and treat scurvy.
  • Moreover, it is a source of potassium, a mineral necessary for heart health and muscle tissue; and iron, which facilitates the transport of oxygen in the blood to the whole body.
